Rachael O'Toole

Head Soft Tissue Therapist at Warrington Wolves |

"Having recently graduated with a BSc in Sports Rehabilitation, I would unreservedly recommend the University and its courses. The degree programmes in the Sports Science department offer exceptional opportunities to students, as well as training and learning in first-class facilities. University of Bolton made me a more practical and confident therapist, for which I am very grateful to the university. I am delighted I chose to study at the university and strongly recommend it to all future applicants."

Michael Scott

Design Manager |

"I attended the open day as I was interested in the Computer Games Design course and, after attending, I quickly felt like I would enjoy my time at the university. The course seemed exactly like what I wanted to do and this persuaded me to choose Bolton. Having real world projects and real client feedback was invaluable, as it enabled me to learn to accept design critique and set me up for a career in the design industry. My design course has set me up on my career path: I am now leading a design team and shaping design decisions for a national tech company. None of this would have been possible had I not started my path at the University of Bolton."

Tara McCully

Graduate Civil Engineer |

"I’m lucky that I’ve always known what I wanted to do, but I know for a lot of young people going through GCSEs and A-levels, and even degrees, it’s difficult to know exactly where you want to go with your life. For anyone who might be struggling to decide, I’d suggest looking into engineering. I’ve always loved building and creating things – I get a real buzz being able to point at something and say 'I made that'.
Regardless of which path you take it’s important to make sure you enjoy it. When I first went to university I thought I wanted to be a structural engineer, but after my first year I realised this wasn’t for me, and started specialising in setting out instead. University gave me practical and lab experience to see how things work and I really enjoyed having the chance to work with construction management modules and hydraulics."

Dr Tony Keating

Owner of Keating Supercars |

"Amongst the university’s alumni is entrepreneur and supercar designer Dr Tony Keating, who studied Automobile Engineering at Bolton Institute during the nineties, went on to achieve an MBA and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2013. The course enabled him to begin work in the engineering industry and in 1998 he set up his own business.

Tony was born in Manchester and is one of the university’s most successful Alumni. Now CEO of Keating Supercars, his company is currently celebrating a decade in business, and preparing to drive full throttle into another decade with the Keating Berus. "

Mandy Fairclough

Community Projects Officer |

"I completed both my Degree in Visual Arts (where I specialised in sculpture) and my MA in Public Art at Bolton, which has lead to extensive opportunities including my first public sculpture being installed last summer in Moses Gate. I had a great relationship with staff at the university and have made some life long friends and contacts in my field.

As a free lance artist I am currently taking part in a large project in Sparth in Rochdale, where I will be creating aluminium etched panels to be installed and fixed onto knee rails outside the local community centre. This will be done with extensive consultation from the local community. In my role as CPO I manage the current projects and apply for funding to develop new initiatives for the centre, including a Driving Project for the community and refugees, ESOL and IT classes, UCAN Feel Fitter classes which encompasses healthy walks, weight management and healthy Eating. We run Counselling sessions for the community, as well as providing customer care and sign posting information and referrals to many agencies, including the Citizens Advice and Employment agencies. My role is very varied on a day to day basis as well as extremely challenging."
