While each postgraduate course will vary in terms of cost, depending on what you’re studying, there is a selection of loans and scholarships that you can apply for. These include:
Government funding
The Government may be able to help you cover your tuition and university costs with a Postgraduate Master’s Loan
If you’re starting a master’s degree, you could get a Postgraduate Master’s Loan to help with course fees and living costs. You can get up to:
£12,167 if your course starts on or after 1 August 2023. See here for more details.
University of Bolton Scholarships
We offer scholarships to those looking to study postgraduate courses, these are detailed below
Alumni Loyalty Discount
This is awarded to both full and part-time UK and EU Masters students, regardless of financial means who go on to study a University of Bolton Taught Master’s course, having completed an undergraduate Higher Education (H.E.) course of study or PGCE/PGDE/PDE/Cert Ed at the University of Bolton.
This is a £1,000 tuition fee waiver made of the anticipated duration of the course. Find out more here.
Military Service Award
Offered to students who’ve spent three years or more in military services for the British Armed Forces, Students must be enrolled on a full-time taught master’s programme at the University, depending on eligibility.
This is a cash reward of £500 per academic year.

To apply for all our postgraduate courses, you will need to complete the University's online application form. To do this, you simply need to find the course you wish to study, select the ‘How to Apply’ tab and follow the instructions.
Following this, the selection process will begin with applications being considered by the University’s admissions tutor in the relevant school or research centre. Interviews may take place depending on the course you’ve applied for followed by an offer or rejection.

These days allow you to meet with the tutors from each faculty and talk to them about the courses you’re interested in. This will give you the chance to ask any questions and discover if the courses are right for you.
From learning about the course content and assessment methods to discovering the hours expected of part-time students, our tutors will be more than happy to help.
It’ll also give you the chance to check out all the great facilities on our friendly campus, as well as enjoy several presentations and tours, where you can find out more about career paths, scholarships and the postgraduate options available.

To apply for these courses, you need to hold a 2.1 honours degree or approved equivalent relating to your area of study.
Contact the relevant research coordinator to discuss the specialism and nature of the research you wish to undertake. Following this, if everything appears to be fine, you will need to complete an application form and send it to the person specified on the form.
All applicants will be required to take part in an interview before offers are made.
