How do I obtain my Degree/Award Certificate?
Students whose results are taken to an Examination Board in June will be able to collect their certificate following the congregation. Students who decide not to attend their graduation will have their certificates posted out to their home addresses within eight weeks following the relevant examination boards.
It is essential therefore that you advise the University of any change to your home address. You can update your address electronically by visiting the University's website at www.bolton.ac.uk| select Current Students, select My Details, then select Student Record.
Alternatively, you can advise the address to which you require your certificate to be sent by emailing tmc1@bolton. ac.uk | and giving your name, student number, date of birth and the course you completed.
Overseas students who are studying at the University are required to confirm the address to which their certificate should be posted. This can be done by emailing tmc1@bolton.ac.uk|, please confirm your full name, student I.D. number, the course you have completed and the address you wish your certificate to be posted to. Until confirmation has been received, certificates will be held at the University.
If you graduated prior to November 2007 and have not collected your certificate, you can request your certificate by emailing tmc1@bolton.ac.uk|. You will need to confirm your name, student I.D. number, date of birth, the award, course and completion date and your current address.

Alterations to Certificates
Alterations to certificates will be made free of charge if the error was on the part of the University. If the spelling of the student's name is to be altered then further proof of identification is required. If the error resulted from incorrect information being provided by a student then names cannot be changed under any circumstances after the award has been conferred. This includes students marrying after they have obtained their award.
Duplicate Certificates
Duplicate Certificate Form|
In the event of loss or damage to a certificate, the following charges for a duplicate certificate will apply:
The University of Bolton Certificate
If the award was issued in 1992 or earlier - see notes on CNAA.
Student Data Management will produce duplicate certificates only if the award was conferred by the University of Bolton and issued after 1992. There will be a charge of £35.00. Please complete the Duplicate Certificate form and return with payment (link to Duplicate Certificate Request form above).
Edexcel Certificate
Courses under Licence Agreement
The University of Bolton operates under a Licence Agreement with Edexcel and administers the registration and recording of results. Certificates for courses that are run under the Licence Agreement ( i .e. HND/HNC) are produced in the Assessment and Awards section of Student Data Management. Alterations to certificates will be made free of charge if the error is made by the University. If a replacement is required as a result of the student losing or causing damage to a certificate there will be a charge of £35.00. Names cannot be changed on a certificate under any circumstances after the award has been conferred.
Courses not under the Licence Agreement
Courses that do not operate under the Licence Agreement (e.g. short courses and foundation) are registered with Edexcel . This is a longer process to produce certificates, as Student Report Forms need to be submitted to Edexcel for each student who has completed a course. Upon receipt of the Student Report Forms, Edexcel will produce the certificates. It can take up to 8 weeks before the certificate is returned to the University. If an Edexcel certificate is lost or damaged, you will be given the appropriate form to complete and return directly to Edexcel . There is a charge of £35.00 for a duplicate certificate.
Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA)
Since the discontinuation of the CNAA, the Open University (OUVS) has taken over responsibility for verification of awards. Although the OUVS is prohibited from issuing CNAA certificates, whether duplicate, replacement or otherwise, it is authorised to issue an "Award Verification Statement" or "Pro- forma Verification" of a CNAA award. Forms are available from Student Data Management - Assessment and Awards.
Award Verification Statement
This is a "To Whom It May Concern" letter on OUVS headed paper and confirms that the award was issued. A fee of £10.00 is currently charged for this.
