University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
Helen’s nursing career began over 30 years ago when, as a sixth form student, sheundertook a volunteer role within a local hospice followed by a health care support role at a local hospital. This, in turn, led her to complete her nurse training and finally become a Registered General Nurse in 1987. Having gained experience across medical, surgical, gynaecological, hospice and community settings, her academic journey has progressed alongside her practice experience. Gaining a BSc with first-class honours in Professional Studies (health and social care) closely followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Community Specialist Practice, she quickly realised her passion and commitment for teaching future healthcare professionals.
Helen joined the University of Bolton, Faculty of Health in 2015 and has continued to study gaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Professional Education, registering as an NMC teacher and becoming a HE Fellow. Her research interests lie primarily in developing the future workforce for health and social care across acute and community settings focusing on the teaching and development of professional values in practice. Helen is now undertaking a professional doctorate with the aim of enhancing the student journey and ultimately developing skilled, compassionate and professional practitioners to deliver high-quality patient care in practice.
