Study Creative Writing at the University of Bolton and you’ll work with professional writers whose achievements make up a huge body of published, produced and award-winning work. Together you’ll develop your own skills and techniques, setting you up for many careers.

A degree in Creative Writing opens doors to a variety of roles, as well as becoming a professional writer, your skills will allow you to discover jobs in areas like journalism, marketing, PR and teaching.

Our dedicated Employability Team is always on hand, providing you with experiences to enhance your CV and boost the skills you need for your chosen profession. They can help with everything from writing a job application, to applying for vacancies and work experience roles. Here are some other ways we’ll support you in future career goals:

Develop a portfolio
Gather examples of your work into a portfolio, whether that’s writing developed as part of your Creative Writing degree, or published in The Bolton Review; our arts magazine which showcases student work from across the University of Bolton. We also have magazine, poetry and other fiction competitions for Creative Writing students to take part in.

Work experience
As a Creative Writing student, you’ll be able to take part in work experience placements across a variety of cultural organisations, including libraries, theatres, art galleries, publishers, schools, media production companies, funding bodies and arts development agencies.

Networking
Each year, the University of Bolton and Bolton Library and Museums come together to plan events with poets and prose writers, giving you the chance to hear from professionals in the creative writing industry, as well as an opportunity to network and develop your own industry contacts.
