North West Study Club for Dental Technicians

Dental Technology Lecturer, Frances Oldroyd has set up the North West Study Club for Dental Technicians. A group that welcomes students so that members can gain knowledge and enhance their skills on key themes relating to Continuing Professional Development.

This was a great success with contributions raised for charities benefiting homeless people with little to no access to dental treatment; especially those requiring dental appliances.

April was the first event held and companies directly approached the organiser to set up further evenings with the next event scheduled for September 2019. Employers were extremely positive regarding the speakers with some wishing the event had gone on for longer.

Digital Dentistry is now becoming ever more common in laboratories and the evening provided information on new approaches for the creation of milled bars for complete denture rehabilitation (Lee Mullins). Additionally, the complete digital workflow solution for laboratories and technicians to meet the demands of patients and clinicians alike (Planmeca).
