It can be a challenge for tutors entering any classroom for the first time with a new group of students. Differing levels of knowledge and the levels of engagement of the students varies from class to class.
Steph, however, was an outstanding member of the class and a pleasure to teach.
It can be difficult to ascertain if students have understood a lecture topic and the answers provided during a tutorial. Having Steph in the class made what was sometimes a challenging topic come to life.
Whenever the opportunity arose for students to ask questions or verify their understanding Steph would always be the first to ask questions. Doing so would enhance her understanding of the said topic or clarify an answer to a question.
Steph's questions were not always to affirm understanding. Challenging information would occasionally put the tutor on the back foot, making classes more interesting for both tutor and class.
Quieter students benefited from the interaction between Steph and the tutors. Tutors were prepared for relevant and challenging questions and Steph was far from shy in coming forward to challenge tutors.
As an exceptional student, Steph worked hard in her studies. Throughout the modules tutors could see how Steph developed week after week, yielding outstanding results.
It was a pleasure seeing Steph develop to become an outstanding student obtaining a high-class degree. Steph then progressed into the role of an academic lecturer.
There is nothing more rewarding for a tutor than seeing the progression of a student through to a successful career. In particular Steph advancing into a career as a lecturer was a true compliment, and evidence of the quality and dedication of the lecturers at the University of Bolton.
