University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
01/03/2022
The University of Bolton, as a member of Universities UK, endorses and supports UUK’s public statement below (issued 28th February 2022) on the invasion of Ukraine and will seek to support those within its community who are affected by this unfolding tragedy:
“The appalling decision of the Russian government to invade Ukraine, and the consequences of this profoundly concerning action, will affect many people across the higher education community, including but not limited to Ukrainian and Russian students and staff in the UK, and UK students and staff in Ukraine and Russia. We are working with member universities and the UK government to identify and address issues for those affected as a matter of urgency.
“Our current focus is on identifying areas of support needed by affected staff and students, including support for financial hardship and welfare. We are also working with UUK member universities and the UK Government to ensure timely advice and support for students and staff currently in Ukraine and Russia.
“The Home Office has confirmed that Ukrainians who are on work, study or visit visas in the UK will have their visas temporarily extended or be able to switch onto different visa routes. We believe the UK should be a welcoming destination for academic and student refugees. We will continue to work with the Home Office on what further visa and immigration measures may be necessary as the situation unfolds.
“Universities UK (UUK) has advised its members to review guidance on Managing Risk in international relations: security related issues in the light of developments, and to stay abreast of FDCO advice in respect of both Ukraine and Russia.”
