Sam Johnson

Head of Bolton School of Arts

Off-Campus Division to support partnership development and collaborative practice with key external organisations such as Shockout Arts and the Backstage Academy. Sams original academic interests sat within the field of Literature and Drama with a particular emphasis upon the 19th Century novel and Victorian theatre; the 20th-century adolescent novel and women's writing. Having fulfilled several roles within the University (including Principal Lecturer for Quality Enhancement and University Learning and Teaching Fellow).

Sams interests have since diversified to include the application of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) within educational settings; applications of Mindfulness within the HE sector; and the significance of partnership working between HE and cultural organisations in the development of enhanced opportunities for students and graduates. Sam represents the University on many cultural and educational strategy groups and committees across Bolton and the North West. She is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is working closely with key colleagues in the development of the Schools REF2021 profile. Sam is hugely committed to an ethos of Arts for All and is a keen advocate of the Arts and Wellbeing agenda.
