Rehabilitation Engineering - Trends to watch out for

If you’re interested in engineering but not sure which area you’d like to work in, rehabilitation engineering could provide you with a career path you might not have otherwise considered. But what does this type of engineering involve, and how could you make a difference to others when you work in this fascinating industry?

If you have never heard of rehabilitation engineering, then you are not alone. It is a relatively new term for the field and many of those who currently work in it do not refer to it as such. That said, it is an area of engineering that is growing. And, given the demographic of the world’s population, is likely to become increasingly more important over the next decade.

What is Rehabilitation Engineering?

Rehabilitation engineering is defined as the methodical use of the engineering sciences to research and design, develop and distribute any technological solutions to help with the issues that are faced by those with disabilities. It is also increasingly being used to help our growing elderly population; offering them solutions to help with the difficulties they face in everyday life.

The application of this type of engineering can also be incredibly beneficial to those who have sustained sports injuries, and need some form of sports rehabilitation in order to help them get back to optimum condition.
