Graphic Design

It had the course I wanted and was relatively local compared to most universities I considered. I don’t live in Bolton, but it is a lively and busy place, full of diverse people. I like how casual the space feels. It feels like a communal space, and you can speak with anyone about most things. The relaxed atmosphere helps me work and feel less pressure.

The facilities I’ve seen and used so far are pretty good. I hope I can explore and use more (such as the printing room for bags etc).

The lecturers are on a 1-10 scale, an 8. They are always ready to give constructive feedback and show us techniques if we are new to it. I’ve gone to one for some more personal matters and I’ve felt heard and understood.

I did attend an open day before I applied. There was a lot to explore, and I felt overwhelmed, but it was amazing to see the work they put in and how friendly the staff were.

I want a full-time career in my chosen subject and I’m hoping to find my specialisation, whether it be editorial design, packaging, motion graphics etc. I have been in contact with the careers team via The Bolton Award and they’ve given me some resources on how my degree can be used, which is an amazing starting point.

I love studying here because of the connection you get because of small, intimate class sizes. The passion the tutors have and how they relate course knowledge/teaching to their own industry experience. It gives an insight into how the course content is relevant.

Currently, I’m looking into advertising and the strategies behind it. I also have a live client where I am designing visuals for a wellbeing event for TalkTalk. I am enjoying these so far because it allows me to gain experience with the industry and an example of how the workflow works. The skills from both projects are also very transferable to most aspects of the course and the jobs in the field after graduation.

I initially joined Art and Design Foundation for the course content to help me decide which path to take and since I have chosen Graphic Design, I haven’t regretted my choice in the slightest.

I’m currently living in the halls that the university provides (Orlando Village) and I must say it is so convenient to be a 20 min walk to the university and the centre of Bolton is the same distance, so amenities are easily accessible. I do feel safe in the halls and it’s a great way to socialise with roommates.

Impeccable quality of teaching, amazing staff that cares for the students. I find the course special because we aren’t just thought pure knowledge, but also soft skills that will help us in the future in the real world. Top-notch facilities and equipment with proper training on how to use them.

I had not attended any open days before my interview, but I and my mother were given a personal tour of the campus, so I felt at home from day one.

Short-term ambitions: Stop procrastinating, Long-term ambitions: To become confident enough with my own skills to work in a team at a studio and hopefully one day become a freelancer.

We are thought exactly the skills the current market is searching for, ensuring we are all well prepared before we leave university.

I like all modules in Graphic Design, but currently, the Design Principles is my favourite since we were given a live brief for the first time, and it challenged me to not just read one of three books but to decode it in order to translate its message and story in one image – the cover.

Love the course and the teachers must be praised. Also, my teachers from foundation are the reason I’m currently studying Graphic design as they helped me find what I enjoy most about the arts. Overall, studying in this university has helped me beyond any measure and I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to study something I love doing.

I applied to this campus as soon as I walked in I knew that it was a friendly place that was a good size and would be more suited for my needs. The lecturers were great and friendly and I knew that they had my best interests at heart.

Studying in Bolton is great as there are plenty of green spaces close to the university which takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. There are many big chain stores which make it a good stepping stone between a small town and a large city.

The best thing about this course is the teaching and because the course is centred around the industry and real-life situations your progress is better and it prepares you for work to a higher extent than other universities that just want good grades. Here this course is more meaningful and more impactful in your life. A great example of this would be when lecturers state that work would be good for your portfolio and not just for the submission area.

The facilities on campus are excellent. We were provided with some tools for our learning which was a bonus extra in addition to the Mac facilities, printers and print room which reflects the wider industry.

The lecturers really prepare you for the outside world. They are not afraid to hold back with a critique that progresses your outcomes significantly and furthers your own personal development. Their style is similar to the industry which is really beneficial for the course and for employment prospects.

My long-term ambitions are to get stuck in the industry and to keep developing my skills and craft.

I am extremely happy with the University of Bolton as it caters for all of my needs and has a very good mental health service the life lounge and really cares about each student.

My course is one of the few courses where you can truly make a difference. Design influences most decisions around the world and is centred around the idea of having a purpose and satisfying every single person's individual needs.
