The University of Bolton is offering a huge range of student support for its students during the nationwide lockdown.

University of Bolton staff continue to work hard to ensure a ‘Covid-secure’ campus access is offered to students who are vulnerable or do not have proper study facilities at home, such as broadband or computers.

The University bought, 500 new laptops to loan to students for home use and more will be ordered if needed.

The University is also operating a ‘no academic detriment’ policy for students’ academic work and free practical sessions will be offered, even after graduation, for those who miss key practical classes due to any Covid-19 closures. 

Wellbeing checks are being carried out by the University’s Life Lounge, Disability Service and Student Advisors to ensure students are coping with the stresses of lockdown and studying in isolation.

The University’s catering department is supplying hot food deliveries every day to local residential students who have chosen to stay in the University’s preferred Halls for only £1 each. The money collected will be donated to Bolton Hospice.

Those students isolating due to testing positive or have been informed to self-isolate are being provided with care packages and food vouchers.

In addition, The University Student Support Fund (UOBSSF) continues to support students who are suffering financial hardship.

Professor George E Holmes DL, President and Vice-Chancellor, said: “The wellbeing of our students is at the heart of everything we do at the University of Bolton.

“Since this pandemic began almost a year ago, all our focus has been on providing the best possible experience for our students, given any Government restrictions we have had to adhere to.

“This has meant introducing measures to make the campus Covid-secure to allow as much face-to-face teaching as possible when students can be on campus and a wide a range of support throughout the pandemic, whether that is financial, pastoral or practical.”
