University of Bolton Chancellor the Earl of St Andrews opens two new state-of-the-art partner buildings in Manchester

The University of Bolton’s Chancellor, Earl of St Andrews, officially opened two new buildings which are home to a range of exciting partnership courses in Manchester.

Th Earl opened a new facility for performing arts and dance students at Shockout Arts, in the Valo Building, Old Trafford.

He said: “In the heart of a vibrant city like Manchester, I can think of no better environment for students to showcase their talents and work towards their dream.

“In this exciting new dance and performing arts school, so many creative careers can get the best possible start.

“The University of Bolton has always been an institution that embraces change, and these courses are a truly unique offering. From musical theatre to street dance, we are delivering a one-of-a-kind student experience.”

The Earl also officially opened the UoB Manchester building based in Manchester Science Park, Greenheys Lane, in the heart of the city centre.

It offers courses, from Finance and Accounting to Health and Social Care, equipping students with vital skills.

He said: “UoB Manchester has a unique focus on employability and professional development. This facility is a testament to the bold, forward-thinking vision this partnership represents.

The Earl said: “We are thrilled that the students are already creating their own campus community in this wonderful setting and are part of something truly special.

“The technology and tools available to UoB Manchester students will be the envy of universities around the country. And by creating a world-class teaching environment, we can deliver a richly rewarding experience for both students and tutors alike.”

The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Dr Diane Hawkins LL, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Bolton, Professor George E Holmes DL DSc and the Chair and members of the University’s Board of Governors attended the ceremonies, which included the presentation of an honorary doctorate to Dr Ravi Gill OBE.

Dr Gill, who founded the London College of Accountancy (LCA) in 2000, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Education, for his outstanding contribution to Education. He has helped to educate tens of thousands of students and, as a passionate philanthropist, has transformed countless lives. Dr Gill has also pioneered partnerships with many higher education institutions, among them the University of Bolton.

Professor Holmes said: “The University is proud and delighted to have partnerships with such forward-thinking organisations in the heart of Manchester which offer such wonderful opportunities for our students, in terms of education, training and career prospects.

“I am also delighted to be able to confer an honorary doctorate on Dr Ravi Gill, whose dedication to education and commitment to those less fortunate has been inspiring over a number of decades.”

The University of Bolton has been named among the top 30 universities in The Guardian University Guide 2024 and has been ranked number one for student satisfaction in the North West for the past six years.
