1. Cloud computing

Cloud computing is bigger than ever, and this trend will continue to grow year-on-year.
Cloud computing means businesses can access data from anywhere in the world, meaning they can provide better services to customers and make it easier to scale.

Two out of three businesses have already moved to the cloud, with other businesses considering the advantages in the year ahead.

2. Big data

The rise of the internet means businesses have more and more data at their disposal. Carefully analysing this information can help companies identify target audiences, demand for products and future trends.

Data science will become a huge industry, with skilled people needed to translate the vast amounts of data that comes through.

3. Artificial intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence is the development and creation of machines and software that can carry out automated tasks for us.

We already use AI in our daily lives. For example, the chatbots on a website and smart speakers in our home are guided by AI principles. However, the technology will grow and evolve, helping us save valuable time and resources.

4. Edge computing

Edge computing is a bit like the second cousin once-removed of cloud computing. Where cloud computing processes data far away from the end-user, edge computing processes it as close to the end-user as possible.

This makes edge computing ideal for scenarios where fast response times are needed, like gaming and self-driving vehicles.

5. Voice over internet protocol (VOIP)

VOIP means people can make phone calls using an internet connection rather than a landline. Think WhatsApp, but on a larger scale!

VOIP makes it easier and more cost-effective for businesses to make phone calls, with 35% of organisations using it now.

The technology that powers landline telephones will be switched off in 2025, making it even more critical for businesses to start considering VOIP.
