Our fashion courses at the University of Bolton

BA (Hons) Fashion: If you wish to pursue a career in fashion without dedicating yourself to a particular niche from the get-go, this is the course for you. We will teach you how the industry functions, keeping up with contemporary trends and commercial designs while simultaneously letting you explore and nurture your own style. Personal expression balanced with a critical awareness of the industry is what we strive to encourage.

BA (Hons) Fashion Photography: This course combines the technical and creative skills of photography and understanding fashion. You will have the opportunity to learn through both studio and location shoots, applying your knowledge in practice. We also teach digital image production and manipulation to keep up with the modern world. From make-up artists to model agencies, by the time you finish your course, you will be an accomplished photographer.

BA (Hons) Textiles and Surface Design: Whilst slightly more technical than the other two, this degree still allows room for student creativity. Throughout your three years at University, you will study surface and texture design for not only fashion, but also interiors, contemporary crafts, and design-led products. Our passionate team has combined years of industry experience and will share their knowledge of traditional and digital processes, preparing you for your professional career.

Showcase Events

Since its founding in 1857, Bolton School of the Arts has hosted a plethora of showcases and displays of student work. We know how important it is to celebrate self-expression. For this reason, we host as many events as we can for everyone to enjoy, promoting our students, and their creativity.

One example would be our virtual “Unlocked” show in 2020, which allowed artists and designers to still share their creativity, despite the COVID-19 lockdown rules. It was a huge success and spoke volumes of the student's passion and dedication at Bolton.

Do you want your hard work and fashion designs seen by the whole university? We host annual competitions that let you see your work displayed in our competition gallery. Not only is this a wonderful experience, but also interests prospective employers down the line.
