University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester

Are you a third-year LLB law student thinking about what to do next? The University of Bolton’s LLM (Master of Laws) degree is a natural progression from the LLB (Bachelor of Laws). While it’s still possible to get a job that involves legal content with an undergraduate degree, those who want to qualify as a lawyer must take the next step in their education.
In addition to gaining your legal qualification, there are a number of advantages of studying LLM in law. Here we look at how to get into law through the LLB-LLM route, the benefits of studying at master’s level, and why it could be beneficial to stay at the same university.
How to get into law with LLM
If you’re studying LLB in law, you can apply for a number of postgraduate courses at Bolton. You can either apply for LLM Law, LLM with Solicitors Qualifying Examination, or PgDip Solicitors Qualifying Examination.
With an LLM in law, you can explore a selection of legal issues in more depth, while developing the associated research and reasoning skills that employers highly value. However, this is not a route to qualifying as a lawyer. To qualify, you should apply for our LLM with Solicitors Qualifying Examination or PgDip Solicitors Qualifying Examination.
Main benefits of LLM degree
Whether you choose to study our LLM Law course or our LLM with Solicitors Qualifying Examination course, you’ll be able to enjoy the incredible benefits of postgraduate training.
Here are some of the reasons to stay on at university to continue your law studies:
· Develop transferable skills – for students who do not intend to qualify as a lawyer, there are many professions in which an LLM in law will come in handy. Some of the skills include legal research and writing, analysis, critical evaluation, logical thinking, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication.
· Diversify your training for other careers – not everyone uses their LLM degree for practicing law. There are many alternative career paths, including banking and finance, human resources, immigration, insurance, IT, investment banking, political research, recruitment, tax inspection, or teaching and education.
· LLM can be a stepping stone for further study – perhaps you wish to study for a PhD? An LLM law degree can be used as a platform for further education and can prepare you in terms of research skills and independent study skills.
Why stay on at Bolton?
If you decide a master’s in law is the right career move for you, there are also some amazing benefits to staying on at the same university.
At the University of Bolton, we welcome existing students and aim to make the process as seamless as possible. Here are some of the reasons to stay with us:

2. You are familiar with your surroundings – starting in a new place can take up a lot of energy, and can even cause stress and anxiety. By staying at the same university, you can focus on hitting the ground running in your training instead.
3. We have a ‘Teaching Intensive, Research Informed’ approach – our courses are among the best in the UK. In fact, we’re 1st in the North West of England (and 3rd in the UK) for Student Satisfaction in Law* for the second year running!
4. Continue using our state-of-the-art facilities – Bolton School of Law has been designed to prepare students for industry with our Moot Court, Legal Research Centre, and a dedicated law library.
