Boss of the LGBT Foundation “delighted and humbled” by Honorary Doctorate from University

The Chief Executive of the LGBT Foundation received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton.

Paul Martin OBE was awarded a Doctor of Social Sciences for his outstanding contribution to the Community.

He said: “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this honour.”

Mr Martin received the Honorary Doctorate in a unique Covid-secure ceremony which was filmed for a special movie documenting this year’s innovative ‘Alternative Graduation’.

The University of Bolton is one of the only ones in the UK to have invited graduands from this year and last to be presented with their degrees in person and their gowns, giving them the chance to have official photographs of their special day.

Mr Martin has more than 25 years experience of working at both local and national levels and is a committed advocate for disadvantaged communities, with a passion for ending social injustice.

The LGBT Foundation is a nationally significant charity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people, working to ensure that all LGBT people fulfil their full potential.

LGBT Foundation provides an extensive range of information, advocacy and support services, and lobbying, research, policy development, and consultation activities with the public sector.

Mr Martin said: “I am delighted and humbled to receive this accolade.”

He added that he had been impressed by the University organising the graduation for students, considering the current circumstances.

He said: “It has been amazing to see how creative the University has been – it is so important that students get the chance to be recognised.”
