Clearing FAQ

Find out about what Clearing is and how it works. Get in touch with us for advice on 0808 281 1111 – we are here to help.

What Is Clearing?

The clearing is for students who have not yet received a place at university. This could be for a number of reasons – you may be applying through UCAS after the 5th of July; you might be having a change of heart about your university choice or you may not have been able to meet the conditions of your original offer as your results may not be as good you’d have hoped.

What Will I Need to Have before Calling?

  • Your UCAS number (if you’ve applied through UCAS)
  • A list of your qualifications (including GCSEs)
  • Pen and paper

Can Someone Else Call on My Behalf?

Yes – we will need your permission to do this though so please be available to jump on the phone for a minute to give permission.

What Is a Verbal Offer?

After speaking with a member of the clearing team you may receive a verbal offer of a place on a course – this cannot be made official until a formal application has been made. Please follow the instructions on how to apply on the emails that follow your call.

When Is Freshers’ Week?

Freshers’ week is called Welcome Week at Bolton and will be in mid-September after enrolment. We’ll send out information about Welcome week in August. This is organised by the Students’ Union and has both daytime and evening events.

Where Do I Send My Certificates To?

If you have qualifications to send to us please email copies of them to qualifications@bolton.ac.uk – this is the quickest way to get them to us, if you can’t email them then you can either bring them into the student centre or post them to:

Admissions
University of Bolton
Deane road
Bolton
BL3 5AB
Please do not post originals.

Do I Have to Apply through UCAS?

If you have already made an application through UCAS for this current academic year and are applying for a full-time undergraduate course then yes, you will need to refer yourself through UCAS.

I’ve Lost My Log-In Details for UCAS?

Unfortunately, we can’t help with this – you will need to contact UCAS directly to sort this out.

Why Do I Need to Call before Referring to My Application?

You can only apply to one university for one course at once through clearing, to save time you will need to check that your course of choice is available through clearing at your chosen university.

What Happens After I’ve Referred through UCAS?

After you refer through UCAS Track we can then start processing your application. Please check your emails and Track for any updates. You’ll also receive emails from us letting you know about what’s happening at the university, what you need to be doing, and extra information about your course of choice.

When Will Enrolment Instructions Be Sent Out?

We’ll send enrolment instructions out from mid-August so please keep checking your inbox and junk mail folder for these.

Can I Speak to Someone about the Course?

Yes, of course, you can! All the Programme Leaders’ contact details are available online on the right-hand side of the course pages. There will also be a tutor available from each subject area on each of the open days.

I Didn’t Declare a Disability on My Application Form.

If you have an additional need and didn’t declare this on your application form, please let us know as soon as possible. Declaring a disability does not impact your application in any way – it allows us to offer support to you as soon as possible. Our Disability Team can discuss different options for you, please get in touch at disabilityinfo@bolton.ac.uk or call +44 (0)1204 903478.
