Course Overview
The English Pre-Sessional (2-Stage) course is designed for international students with an IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent. It provides the academic English skills needed to succeed in your studies at the University of Bolton. This five-week intensive programme helps improve your academic writing, reading, speaking, and listening while familiarising you with the UK academic environment.In addition to traditional language skills, we'll introduce you to using AI tools and other computer software to enhance your learning. You'll learn how to use these technologies to improve your language proficiency and academic research skills, helping you excel in your future studies.

Entry Requirements
- Undergraduate: IELTS 5.0 (or approved comparable Secure English Language Test) with no skill less than 4.5.
- Postgraduate: IELTS 5.5 (or approved comparable Secure English Language Test) with no skill less than 5.0.
- The Admissions team will provide advice on acceptable SELTs.

Bursaries
Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2024-25 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. The fees for a student's course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

Teaching & Assessment
The course uses a blend of teaching methods, including workshops, group work, and independent study. You'll receive 20 hours of structured contact time per week, focused on developing your academic English skills through practical tasks and assignments. The course also includes training in using AI tools and other educational software to improve language learning and academic research. Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, with a combination of written assignments, presentations, and an exam. You'll also receive individual feedback in tutorials to track your progress.
