University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
I worked in the banking industry for a number of years before deciding to get back into higher education. The University of Bolton was my initial choice as it was small as compared to others thus offering me the opportunity to study in a family friendly environment where I could receive all the support I needed from my lecturers. Having achieved the following qualifications: MBA, PGCE, BA (Hons), I was employed by the same university.
Teaching Fast-track, a programme designed for mature students returning into education, gives me the opportunity not just to teach but also to share my experience with my learners. I can well identify with their needs, thus providing them with the help and support they need to successfully complete their course and enjoy their learning experience. An area of interest besides my teaching expertise is motivational speaking which I practice outside of the university. I decided to incorporate small motivational talks in my lectures and have seen the impact this has on students’ learning experience. Even after moving on from my classes, most students will comment on how these motivational talks still impact on their learning as well as their life as a whole.
Moving forward I would like to conduct research on how motivational speaking impacts on student learning in a wider context not just for Access or Fast-track into higher education students.
