Dr Gareth Hughes

Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer

Dr Hughes is a Consultant in Intensive Care and Respiratory Medicine based at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. He completed his training within the North West after graduating with a bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery degree from the University of Manchester in 2007.

During specialist training he undertook further postgraduate studies in workplace based postgraduate medical education and health care ethics and law. He has experience of teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is a peer reviewer for a number of journals and has ongoing involvement with clinical trials.

He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bolton and is the module lead for Acute Medicine and Respiratory Medicine. He teaches and supports learners across the Advanced Practice Pathways including apprenticeship pathways.

He is the subspecialty lead for interstitial lung disease in Bolton and has a a particular interest in the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome, difficult weaning and long-term ventilation
