University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
11/05/2023
As a university, our main goal is to make sure that our students live by the #UniAsItShouldBe philosophy. This means that we are dedicated to ensuring all students are satisfied and enjoying their learning journey with us. We take great pride in our ranking as number one in the Northwest for student satisfaction by the Complete University Guide for the past four years.
We support our students from the beginning to the end of their journey. And, in light of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are showcasing the facilities that we offer students so that they know where they can go if they ever need mental health and wellbeing support.
The University of Bolton Life Lounge
Our life lounge is where we offer free mental health and wellbeing services for students. These services include counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, mental health advisors and wellbeing advisors. After attending a triage appointment, which will either be held in person or on the phone, students can gain access to a wide range of support systems and can also use this space for personal time. Let’s take a closer look at the support systems in place!
Counselling
We provide two fully qualified counsellors that students can go to for free, professional, and confidential support. If you are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties, they will be able to help by finding solutions that change or boost your wellbeing.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
The CBT clinic is supported and provided by closely supervised postgraduate students that are currently training in a BABCP-accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies. This enables them to get effective training as well as effectively make a difference by providing therapy in relation to anxiety, trauma, sleep problems, chronic health problems and more. We also have a fully qualified CBT therapist to ensure support is being given appropriately.
Mental Health Advisors
Our three qualified mental health advisors provide comprehensive mental health assessments for those who book an appointment and offer support for students that suffer from complex mental health needs to identify the correct interventions.
Pets as Therapy Dogs
We provide a number of assessed pets as therapy dogs that visit the university campus throughout the year. Our students are invited to spend time with these dogs if they feel it would benefit them.
You will never run out of options when studying with us! If you want to find out more about these student services, please follow the link here.
We will support you to support others!
Although our students are fortunate to receive these services, there is a major skill shortage in the mental health and wellbeing sector. This means that many people cannot receive the support that they need and deserve. To help make a change, the University of Bolton now offers a BSc (Hons) Mental Health, Wellbeing and Counselling course that provides students with all the knowledge and skills they need to give people the correct care.
If you want to make a difference, follow the link here to find out further course information. Throughout your studies, you will receive one-to-one support to ensure that you graduate feeling confident and ready for employment.
