Performing Arts and Mental Health in Teenagers Why Teach

Provide a form of release

The arts is excellent for channelling inner thoughts, frustrations and feelings, which can improve mental health in teenagers. For young people undergoing exam stress or problems at home, performing arts is a chance to express themselves.

By turning negative energy into creativity, they can find it easier to overcome suffering or trauma. So being a drama teacher can be a lot more than passing on practical skills for building future careers. You could be contributing to much bigger triumphs in their life, including their wellbeing.

Understanding how to improve mental health in young people starts with giving them a safe platform to be open and honest. While this sometimes isn’t possible through words or in a formal setting, it can be done alternatively thought arts therapy.
