Alternative Graduation and Graduation Documentary Film July 2021

This summer, students at the University of Bolton will be able to attend an Alternative Graduation during a series of face-to-face ceremonies in July.

The University wants to make Graduation as special as possible, in spite of the pandemic.

So, from July 9th-16th students will be invited individually to attend the University of Bolton’s Covid-secure campus at a specific, allotted, time slot.

Students and staff will be required to show proof of a negative lateral flow test (no more than 48 hours old) on arrival, at their time slot.

Students will arrive on campus at Senate House and be dressed in their gowns (gowns will be loaned at no cost to students), then photographed.

They will then make their way (socially distanced and wearing face coverings) to receive their degrees in the Main Lecture Theatre.

Once they have received their scroll, they will have their photograph taken and leave campus via a one-way system.

The current Covid-secure measures, including airport-style temperature scanners, wearing face coverings and practising social distancing will be in place to keep students and staff safe.

Because of the requirement to practise strict social distancing, unfortunately no guests (family or friends) will be able to attend.

However, each ceremony will be filmed professionally by an Oscar-nominated film company and directed by our own Professor David Thacker who, as some of you may know, is an Olivier Award winning theatre director and BAFTA-nominated film director.

In August or September, the final Graduation documentary films will be made available for loved ones and friends to watch at a special ‘world premiere’. Copies will be available as a memento of their special day.

We still need more volunteers to help from July 9th to 16th to ensure Graduation runs smoothly and efficiently.

We need people who can help to control the flow of students and ensure that everyone knows where they need to be.

Julie Bateman – contact jb15@bolton.ac.uk<mailto:jb15@bolton.ac.uk> – will be managing the volunteers for this event, so please can we ask that you confirm to Julie the names of the people who can help, and which days they are available?

Thank you.
