University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
14/07/2021
Chris Green, MP for Bolton West and Atherton, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton. Mr Green was awarded a Doctor of the University for his outstanding contribution to the town of Bolton.
He said: “It is a privilege to be offered and accept this honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton. It is a pleasure to serve my constituents and a privilege to work with Bolton Council and the University of Bolton. We achieve the most if we work together.”
Mr Green received the Honorary Doctorate from the Chancellor of the University of Bolton, the Earl of St Andrews, in a unique Covid-secure ceremony which was filmed for a special movie documenting this year’s innovative ‘Alternative Graduation’.
The University of Bolton is one of the only ones in the UK to have invited graduands from this year and last to be presented with their degrees in person and their gowns, giving them the chance to have official photographs of their special day.
Mr Green was born in Northern Ireland and moved back to Liverpool to attend school before moving to Manchester to start his career.
Before being elected in 2015, Chris worked as an engineer in the mass spectrometry industry for nearly 20 years.
Mr Green has continued his interest in this area having been elected to serve on the Science and Technology Committee between 2015-17 and is involved in several technology-related All-Party Parliamentary Groups, including as Chairman of the APPG for Medical Research and as Vice Chairman of the Life Sciences and Medical Devices APPGs.
Following his interest in this area, Chris has supported the University of Bolton and the wider community in promoting innovative industry and high-tech jobs as a key part of Bolton’s regeneration plan as part of the Levelling Up Fund.
