University of Bolton, why we are the right choice

Some familiar alien enemies from the world of Doctor Who caused a stir as they ‘invaded’ a Bolton town centre cinema.
The two Daleks visited The Light Cinema to help promote the two Doctor Who films from the 1960s starring Peter Cushing – Doctor Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150AD were shown as a double bill on the big screen on Sunday 10 July.
The monsters were the result of hard work by talented students and the programme leader of the University’s Special Effects Modelmaking for Film and TV degree course.
The red Dalek is based on the design of the aliens from the two feature films and the smaller grey one from the 1975 Tom Baker story Genesis of the Daleks.
Jim Costello, Programme Leader, who also built the red Dalek, said: “Being able to bring these full-size models along to show members of the public what they look like up close and personal is a great opportunity to demonstrate the talent we have and continue to attract at the University of Bolton.
“The students certainly had a great time scaring some customers!”
Vikki Bentham, Operations Manager at The Light Bolton, said: “The Daleks created a lot of interest and we were all blown away by how they looked as they moved around the cinema foyer. The skills of the students at Bolton are incredible.
“We were delighted to be able to show the two classic Doctor Who movies on Sunday on the cinema screen where they belong.”
