University lecturer’s pride in receiving She Inspires award at Palace of Westminster

An adult nursing lecturer from the University has received a top award at the Houses of Parliament for being an “outstanding role model”.

Yugasubitha (Yuga) Mani was presented with the Inspiring Indian Women She Inspires Award 2024 – Outstanding Educational Role Model at a special event hosted by MP Bob Blackman in the Palace of Westminster.

Yuga, who is based at the University’s satellite nursing center at Bradford College, said: “I have accomplished my dream of securing a lecturing job in the UK, which I have always dreamt of, and that I am an inspiring woman in their life.”

“I had no words after being announced as the winner, especially in this category. It means so much to me and all the women from where I was born and brought up, a rural village in India.

“During my childhood, any woman working was an achievement in itself, but I wanted to dream beyond that, and I have always dreamt of developing myself to come to the UK. English was not my first language. However, I have always tried to build my skills, have a vision for my life, and try very hard to achieve my passion.

“Today, I am in my dream teacher job, in my dream country. In addition, I have been awarded for being an outstanding educational role model.

Yuga, who lives in Bradford, said: “I feel that the University not only ranks number one in the North West for Student Satisfaction but is also a great place to work for the staff within the supportive team.

“The University has always helped me to develop personally and professionally.”
