The University of Bolton has agreed to support a local community cricket club by sponsoring it for three seasons.

In recent years, the club and its hard-working volunteers have been focused on unity and cohesion in Bolton’s communities.
Its facilities are open to all of the wider community and include keep fit classes, stay warm evenings, and the chance to have a coffee and a chat for support and friendship.
The Secretary of Deane and Derby Cricket Club, Mr. Ismail Kala said he was “delighted” by the news.
Mr. Kala, who has been volunteering at the club for 45 years and is a retired teacher of science and an executive member of the club, added: “This support from the University of Bolton means a great deal to Deane and Derby Cricket Club.
“It is clear that the University and its Vice-Chancellor are magnificent champions of the Bolton community, especially disadvantaged communities. We are incredibly grateful for the support.
“The funding will be used to replace much-needed kit and equipment, to maintain facilities, and for wider outreach to help more people through the club.”
Professor George E Holmes, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Bolton, said: “Deane and Derby Cricket Club is an excellent facility in the heart of the local community, providing vital sports and social opportunities for local residents of a wide age range.
