Dr Md Ismil Hossain is the module leader of Integrated Management Systems (HE level 7), Project Management (HE level 7), Management and Enterprise in Engineering (HE level 6), and Engineering in Business and Society (HE level 5). He is currently teaching in relation to his specialised areas, for example, Integrated Management Systems; Project Management; Engineering in Business; Business Operations; Engineering Management; Business in Engineering; Management and Enterprise in Engineering at the School of Engineering, at the University of Bolton.
His early education was completed in Bangladesh, where he obtained a BSS (Hons) and an MSS in Political Science.
He began his educational journey in the United Kingdom in 2009. He graduated in Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and earned an MSc in Human Resource Management (HRM), at the University of Abertay in 2012. He received his MSc in International Business (Marketing and HRM) from the University of Dundee in 2014. He obtained his PhD from the Institute of Management at the University of Bolton in 2020. The title of his thesis was “Examining the impact of home and host country institutional environments on HRM practices in developed and developing countries: The case of UK and Bangladesh”.
During his PhD studies, he also served as President of the Postgraduate Research Society (PGRS) and organised two PGRS conferences in 2016, at the University of Bolton. Dr Hossain specialised in institutional environments in developed and developing countries, including their socio-cultural, political, economic and legal aspects. He also specialised in the field of national and international Human Resources Management, including business and management. Dr Hossain holds a PGCE with distinction, during which period, his teaching skills were developed in accordance with UK Professional Standards that supports the leading, engagement and collaboration with students. He has two years of teaching experience at various UK institutions and has supervised ten MSc students and has supervised nine PhD students at the R1 and R2 levels.
Research Interests and Research Subject Specialisms:
He is interested in the field of national and international business and management, more specifically, the integration of engineering and business and management in terms of how this encourages innovation and sustainable business environments. In light of his learning, teaching, supervising and publishing activities in business and management, he is demonstrating his experience of applying research/practice in the delivery of learning relevant to the Engineering area.
Considering his previous and current knowledge and experience in business and management, it is clear that he has been embracing innovation and sustainable business environments in relation to Engineering applications. This blending of knowledge and experience will create a new avenue for his continuing development, as he guides students/researchers in comprehending product development, management decision, company operation, business strategy and including marketing approaches. These skills are all interconnected and are essential in ensuring the long-term potentiality and innovation of business for organisations, society and for global well-being.
