Dr Zhen Qiu is a lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Bolton. She obtained her BEng from Tianjin University, top 5 in Engineering discipline in P.R.China, and MSc in Biomedical Engineering and PhD in Electronic Engineering and Physics from the University of Dundee, UK. Prior to joining the University of Bolton in 2023, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Dundee, the University of Strathclyde, and as Research Engineer in ERDF funded Industrial 4.0 innovation programme C&W 4.0 at Liverpool John Moores University, bridging between local SMEs and Universities for digitization solutions to industrial challenges.
Her research interests are on the development of sensors, smart devices and IoT technologies for industrial, biomedical, and industry 4.0 applications, including NDT, automated manufacturing and inspection, structure health monitoring, energy harvesting, medical imaging and therapy. She is also exploring material characterisation, system automation, advanced manufacturing and fabrication techniques, 3D printing techniques, finite element modelling and bespoke sensor development addressing application-oriented challenges that commercial devices can not address.
Dr Zhen Qiu’s funding track records include securing and delivering projects as PI and Co-PI with a total value of 470k, funded by the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA), VisNET collaboration fellowship, EPSRC RCNDE feasibility project, and KE-strategic partnership project, respectively.
Dr Zhen Qiu works intensively on teaching, tutoring, and supervision at the University of Bolton, she is also interested in achieving Equality and Diversity within the Higher Education environment.
