Jenny Weston

Lecturer - Nursing

Jenny has spent 16 years as a qualified registered nurse in Emergency Care, working within a variety of Greater Manchester Hospitals. While nursing, she completed her mentorship as she enjoyed engaging and teaching students. Whilst progressing through her career, Jenny understood the importance of education, so she topped up her Diploma in nursing to a Degree. She began this process by studying Evidence Enhancing Practice, which led to her passion for improving care.

Jenny’s passion for improving patient care, led her to undertake a Service Improvement module, using triage as her goal to improve care by reducing wait times for triage. She also has an interest in wound care, so she furthered her studies by completing a Tissue Viability module. Jenny explored the types of wounds and how best to manage them to improve patient care within practice. Jenny really enjoyed working in the minor injuries and illness department, so much so that she decided that her passion was within the minor’s area.

She progressed her career and specialised as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP). She spent 6 years as an ENP and continued to progress by gaining a Non-Medical prescribing qualification V300. At this point, Jenny was an expert within her area; she supported student nurses, junior staff, and trainee ENPs. Jenny’s interests as a nurse are wound care, minor injuries, minor illnesses and improving care.

In 2023, Jenny joined The University of Bolton as an academic lecturer and Module lead within the Continued Professional Development (CPD) team. She leads on the Minor Injuries Module and Clinical Skills for Community and General Practice Nursing Specific (Child). Since starting, she has been involved in the development of new modules and workshops in respiratory, wound care and diabetes.

Jenny is now furthering her own knowledge by attending CPD Teaching and Support Learning in Higher Education and PGCert and HE Fellowship here at The University of Bolton.
