Matt Smith

Associate Lecturer - Clinical Simulation

I undertook my degree here at the University in Biomedical Engineering in September 2014 after being in the engineering industry since leaving school. Upon graduating from the University in the summer of 2017, I applied for a job at Olympus medical which specialise in endoscopy and ancillary equipment to support the endoscopy products. The role I had was to support surgeons, doctors and nurses in ensuring that the endoscopy procedures they were carrying out ran as efficiently as possible by providing technical support should they encounter any problems with equipment.

I was also responsible for carrying out Potential Adverse Event (PAE) investigations resulting from equipment failure during pre-procedure inspection or during procedures and why these failures occurred.

My role at the University is to facilitate clinical simulations for students in the sim suites and ensure that everything is organised and the technicians are supporting the various lectures that take place within the sim suites. I also teach on the Anatomy and Physiology module that the nursing students undertake.
