University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
I am currently a Professor of Engineering Analysis, a member of the Senate and Chair of the University Ethics Committee. I am a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer.
I have held academic positions from Lecturer to Professor over a period of thirty years in four different universities. In addition, I have worked as an Engineer in three different industrial sectors related to structural and mechanical engineering.
My field of expertise is structural composites and finite element analysis. My PhD was in the strength and analysis of composite structures from the University of Manchester. I have an MSc in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and a first degree in Mechanical Engineering.
I sit on various professional body panels and regional committees. I play an active role in supporting the training and education of young engineers in the region. I was also a former Chair of two regional committees and currently the Education Officer for the IMechE in the northwest of England. I also act as a referee for the IMechE, IET and the Royal Academy of Engineers.
I have refereed numerous journal articles in the field of Engineering. I have supervised over thirty PhD students to successful completion from all over the world, including China, Africa, Germany, France and the Middle East.
I have published over one hundred journal papers in the field of Engineering and Materials and continue to be active in this area.
I currently hold external examiner positions at two other universities and over the years have held similar positions at four other universities.
I enjoy working with both undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels. I am a passionate educator and supporter of the engineering profession.
