John is a scientist whose 35-year scientific career has been marked by contributions to the fields of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. He earned his PhD from Birkbeck College, University of London, setting the stage for research and leadership in drug discovery, both in the UK and Sweden.
Throughout his extensive career, John held prominent positions, culminating in his role as Executive Director of a major bioscience department. His expertise and dedication were recognised with an Honorary Professorship at the University of Warwick Medical School, where he contributed significantly to academia while actively advancing drug discovery initiatives.
In 2013, John embarked on a new chapter by joining the University of Buckingham, as Professor of Metabolic Disease Drug Discovery within the Clore Life Science Laboratory. Demonstrating his visionary leadership, he played a pivotal role as part of the founding team for the university’s medical school, guiding it through the rigorous approval process and laying the groundwork for its success until the appointment of a dean.
As a testament to his standing in the scientific community, John was promoted to Pro Vice Chancellor for Health and Research at the University of Buckingham. His commitment to excellence and innovation has earned him recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, highlighting his significant contributions to advancing biological sciences.
John’s dedication extends beyond academia, as evidenced by his role as a lay examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where he contributes to maintaining rigorous standards in surgical education. Furthermore, his status as Professor Emeritus from the University of Buckingham underscores his enduring legacy and continued impact on scientific research and education.
