Professor Maria Livanou

Head of School of Psychology

Professor Maria Livanou is the Head of School of Psychology at the University of Bolton. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an active researcher and an HCPC-registered practitioner psychologist.

She developed her research and clinical skills in various settings in the UK and abroad, including the Institute of Psychiatry (King’s College London) and the Traumatic Stress Service (Maudsley Hospital, London). Her clinical expertise focuses on adults who experience a range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety, depression, and bereavement- or trauma-related distress.

Most of her published research has focused on the psychological impact of traumatic events, factors that instil psychological preparedness for trauma, resilience and the effectiveness of brief cognitive and behavioural interventions for people with post-traumatic stress disorder.
