Peter Houghton

Lecturer

Pete worked as a healthcare assistant/phlebotomist in a GP surgery before undertaking his nurse training. Qualifying as an adult nurse in 2012, he relocated to North Devon and worked on a Trauma and Orthopaedics ward for several years at North Devon District Hospital. Pete remained in North Devon as he changed his specialty to intensive care nursing.

When he returned to Birmingham, he worked in the Critical Care Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital before moving to Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as a Practice Facilitator and progressing to Lead Education Nurse for the Trust.

While working at Sandwell and West Birmingham, Pete supported students out on placement, developed skills and simulation teaching sessions for students and registered staff, and developed the Trust’s preceptorship programme.

Pete then began lecturing, working at universities within the Midlands before joining Bolton in 2024.
Pete has been based at the Satellite Centre for Nursing in North Devon since joining the University. Pete teaches on the Trainee Nursing Associate (Higher Apprenticeship Route) Programme as well as the BSc Nursing (Adult) programme.
