Rizwana Adia

Rizwana qualified as an adult nurse in 2014 from the University of Central Lancashire with a degree in Nursing(adult). This allowed her to secure a job at Salford Royal Hospital in the specialist acute neurology ward. In 2015, Rizwana commenced a post within the Bolton district nursing service as a community staff nurse. During this time, she completed continuous professional development modules in adult safeguarding, multi-professional support for learning and assessment in practice, and the prescribing qualification (V150) to support patient care.

The opportunity to Progress within the service allowed Rizwana to become the caseload holder in 2017 and complete the specialist practitioner qualification (district nurse) in 2018 at the University of Bolton. This further developed knowledge and supported patient care. As a caseload holder, Rizwana worked across different teams within Bolton, developed a range of specialist skills, and continued her passion as a district nurse.

In 2019, an opportunity to further develop academically was made available by joining the University of Bolton as a lecturer on the pre-registration programme. Since commencing employment with the University, there have been several opportunities to progress, which led to her current position as a senior lecturer (curriculum development lead) in 2021. This has led to the development of master provision in nursing.

Rizwana has experience working with other Health Education Providers (HEI) through undertaking validations as an external advisor and she is currently an external examiner at two HEIs, for the Specialist Practice Apprenticeship programmes.

The Queens Nursing Institute awarded Rizwana recognition for her role in community nursing and she is a member of the Association of District Nurse Educators.

Research Interests and Research Subject Specialisms:
Rizwana is interested in Community nursing and compassion fatigue and its impact on the workforce, end-of-life care and adult safeguarding.

Teaching specialisms:
Rizwana teaches a range of undergraduate and post-graduate modules but is particularly interested in community specialist practice, research and healthcare leadership.
