Care Experienced Students

Support throughout your studies

The University of Bolton wants to make sure that studying here is accessible as well as enjoyable. For this reason, we have dedicated support in place to help you throughout your studies with us, we hope this allows you to achieve everything you are capable of:

  • We offer a Care Experienced Bursary worth up to £1000 per academic year to eligible students, to find out more and to submit an application visit Blackbullion
  • You will be able to speak with a dedicated, named contact within Student Services for any queries you may have:
    • Students in the School of Clinical & Biomedical Sciences, School of Health & Society and School of Nursing & Midwifery
      • Kay Loxham
    • Students in the School of Engineering, National Centre for Motorsport Engineering, School of Arts and School of Creative Technologies
      • Luke Evans
    • Students in the School of Law, Institute of Management and School of Education and Psychology
      • Chris Collinson
  • We send all recipients of the Care Experienced Bursary a card and gift during the Festive Period and on their Birthday.
  • You will also have access to an ‘Enhanced Personal Tutor’, which will be available to you for the duration of your studies.
  • If you experience unexpected financial hardship, subject to eligibility, you will be able to apply for the Student Support Fund. Care Experienced Students have relaxed eligibility criteria and can also visit Student Services for help submitting an application.
  • Through our Student Funding Team, you can access free Budgeting workshops and get free support with financial management.
  • When you arrive at the University of Bolton, you will be allocated a “Buddy” should you want one, to help you during your first few days.
  • When you arrive, you will be provided with a ‘Welcome Pack’ if you are moving into our preferred accommodation provider.
  • If you move into our preferred accommodation provider, you will be able to take advantage of preferential accommodation allocation and full year contracts (52 weeks), plus support with deposits. You can contact our preferred accommodation provider here.
  • You will be able to get preferential access to our Life Lounge and Mental Health and Wellbeing Services. This includes fast track referrals, counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • You will be able to request, should you wish to, to attend a private or supported enrolment process when you join the University.
  • You will be given the opportunity to be involved in our Ambassador Scheme, which will allow you to contribute to the University Community.
