Why Your Fitness Matters
Sport rehabilitators help prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat injuries resulting from physical and sports-related practices. Access to sport rehabilitation is vital to the success of professional and amateur sports people and those who are undertaking sports training activities to improve their general well-being. But why is it essential for you as a sport rehabilitator to look after your fitness?
Firstly, of course, your fitness matters because your well-being matters. Being physically fit reduces your risk of a range of illnesses and conditions from high blood pressure to type 2 diabetes. Exercise and staying physically active are also linked to improved sleep and better mental health.
It is also essential to consider the physical requirements of the job. Sport rehabilitation is a physically demanding job, how demanding depends on the specific sector you choose to work in and the pressure of that environment. However, keeping fit for work is essential as you will be on your feet a lot and need to be able to physically manipulate clients to support with exercises and various injury recovery therapies.
Then, you need to consider the example you are setting for your clients. If you are discussing diet and exercise with them, they are more likely to take you seriously if you take your own advice. If you are physically fit and can provide examples of how you achieve your peak fitness, you give your clients confidence in what you are telling them. The same goes for sports training and physio exercises. If you can demonstrate how these are done, including proper posture and positioning, it aids your clients in getting it right. Choosing a university that gives you access to the best sports, well-being and exercise opportunities is a great place to start.
