How Do I Make An Appointment?
Careers Advisors are available throughout the week from Monday to Friday. If you have a quick query one of our advisors may be able to give advice immediately but if your query requires a more in-depth guidance interview, then we can make you an appointment. Appointments are for 45 minutes, but if you require longer then please do let us know.
Where Is The Careers Service Located?
The Careers Service can be found within the Student Centre, Chancellor’s Mall.
Who Can Use The Careers Service At The University Of Bolton?
All current students can access the support and advice provided by the Careers Service. Also, all graduates from the University of Bolton can access the support for up to three years after graduation. You will be asked to register with us by completing the necessary paperwork.
I Need To Find A Part-Time Job, Where Do I Look For Work?
You can register with our Job Shop to look for all part-time vacancies and vacation work. We also have a number of useful guides on finding part-time work and also a list of useful links to part-time employment opportunities. You can also come into the careers office to talk to an advisor about all of your recruitment needs from completing application forms to interview techniques.
What Kind Of Advice Can You Give Me?
The Careers Service is here to help you with any careers-related issue. If you are unsure about what you want to do we can help you to assess what you want from a job, get you to think about your skills, motivations, interests and abilities. We can help with the job-seeking process and help you to apply for vacancies and graduate positions. We will not tell you what to do or write your CV for you, you must be prepared to get involved.
When Is The Careers Service Open?
The Careers Office is open from 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday. We have regular appointment slots throughout the week. There may be less availability during vacation periods please check the website for details.
Can I Get Help With My CV, Covering Letter And Application Form?
A Careers Advisor will help you with all your job application techniques and processes. They will check over a current CV and give you tips on how to improve it, they will help you to construct a CV and covering letter from scratch and they will happily read over any application forms to provide you with some constructive feedback. You can also find useful documents and resources in the careers office and on the website regarding the completion of CV’s, covering letters and applying for work.
Can I Undertake A Mock Interview?
You can book an appointment with a Careers Advisor to discuss recruitment best practice and also arrange to undertake a mock interview. On occasions, we also involve employers in this process.
I Am Interested In Volunteering, How Do I Get Involved?
We have a Volunteering Coordinator based within the Student Experience Team who can help you to explore volunteering opportunities within the university as well as on a local or national basis. The Coordinator is available between 10:30 and 14:30 Monday to Friday (from 10:00 Wednesday). We have a variety of opportunities to suit all interests and abilities. What Information And Resources Are Available?
There is an extensive range of resources available. This includes information specific to employment, career choice, self-employment and postgraduate study.
