Course Overview
This stand-alone advanced professional development course offered by the University of Bolton aims to build on your pre-existing knowledge of adult community nursing practice. We’ll support you to develop professional skills, confidence and autonomy so that you’re able to lead and coach a community nursing team while collaborating effectively with other agencies to enable people to remain safely in their chosen place of care.Our dedicated team will guide you as you explore the community nurse’s role in supporting the delivery of safe and effective, high-quality care to people, their families, and carers. We’ll help you develop your understanding of communication, consultation skills and leadership for integrated care and team working to facilitate the planning, implementation and evaluation of care in managing the deteriorating person and older people.

Entry Requirements
- You must have current professional registration as a health or social care practitioner.
- You’ll also normally need to provide evidence of post-registration experience of professional practice as well as a first degree relevant to your health or social care practice.
- We may also consider applicants offering recent study at Level HE6.
- Current employment in an appropriate role in a community nursing setting will be beneficial.
- You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
- If English isn’t your first language, you’ll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). We also accept a range of other English language qualifications – please visit our English Language Requirements web page for more details.

Home/EU Fees
Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £900 for the academic year 2025/26.
International Fees
Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £900 for the academic year 2025/26.
Bursaries
Important note regarding tuition fees: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. The fees for a student's course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

Teaching & Assessment
This advanced professional development course adopts a blended learning approach to develop your enquiry skills within the context of patient care. Lectures involve a mixture of theory and case-based discussions around clinical scenarios. These focus on increasing your understanding of the leadership and management of a wide range of chronic conditions in community care. This approach allows you to consider current research evidence and use this to inform your clinical decision-making and communication skills.
As well as attending lectures, we’ll expect you to undertake self-directed study and build on the knowledge you’ve gained in the theory sessions. A range of relevant web-based resources will be available via Moodle, the University's virtual learning environment, to support you to complete this work at a time and place that is convenient to you. These activities will ensure you fully develop the underpinning knowledge required to complete the assessments.
Formative assessment will support your learning but does not contribute to your final mark. You’ll receive feedback from your tutors and peers that allows you to reflect on your progress and identify what you are doing well and where you may need extra help. Summative assessment will involve a written case study and an oral presentation. These elements will contribute to your final mark.
