Institute of Medical Sciences

The University of Bolton’s Institute of Medical Sciences is a new £40m skills training centre for clinical healthcare roles. The first development of its kind in Greater Manchester, it will transform the way people are trained and employed in the healthcare sector.

The facility will give learners a direct route into healthcare careers, offering new training and apprenticeship opportunities for a range of clinical roles, including nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, nutrition and more.

It will offer training for learners aged 16+, including existing clinical professionals who may want to upskill or specialise in their field.

Located on the site of the Royal Bolton Hospital, courses at the Institute of Medical Sciences will be co-delivered and assessed by senior clinicians at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, ensuring that learners have the necessary skill-set to immediately step into clinical roles.

The Institute is due to open in September 2024 and will train 3,000 learners annually. It is a collaborative project between the University of Bolton, Bolton College, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and Bolton Council.
