The Life Lounge brings together specialist services Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, free for students to access, which includes: Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Wellbeing Advisors and Mental Health Advisors. The Life Lounge also provides a quiet and relaxing space with resources to help you chill out.

The Life Lounge team has developed a fantastic Mental Health and Wellbeing Online Resource page. You can access this page 24/7 365 days a year. On the page you will find all kinds of healpful advice, guidance and information about mental health and wellbeing, self help guides and much more. The team also deliver workshops covering common topics like improving sleep, creative writing, how to manage stress and much more. You can find all this information by clicking here.

Key Information

The Life Lounge reception is staffed by a Wellbeing Advisor. The Wellbeing Advisor is able to make you appointments for any of the following: Mental Health Advisor, Counsellor, CBT Therapist and or Wellbeing Coordinator.

Any student wishing to access the Life Lounge services for the first time will attend a triage appointment or have a triage appointment by telephone conducted by the Wellbeing Coordinator. The Wellbeing Coordinator will work with you to identify which is the most appropriate service to support you. In addition, the Wellbeing Coordinator working with the Wellbeing Advisor create and promote useful events and resources. They deliver workshops that are designed to enhance your wellbeing.

The University has two fully qualified counsellors for students and the service they provide is free and confidential. The service has a great understanding of the problems facing students today. The service offers short-term support and is available to any student who wishes to speak with someone who is not involved in their personal life or academic work.

The CBT Clinic is provided by postgraduate students completing their training in a BABCP-accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies in addition to our fully qualified CBT Therapist. Students who provide a service are closely supervised in their practice and will be available for scheduled time slots to provide therapy in relation to anxiety, low mood, anger, low self-esteem, perfectionism, sleep problems, chronic health problems, bereavement and trauma.

The University employs three Mental Health Advisors whose role is to provide comprehensive mental health assessments and support for students with complex mental health needs who may be experiencing a crisis or deterioration in their mental state and/or mood. This is in order to identify appropriate support and where there is a need indicated, signposting information to external and internal health care and support providers.

The University has a number of Pets as Therapy dogs that visit the University throughout the academic year. Students are invited to spend time with a therapy dog in effort to reduce stress, anxiety or just to spend some time with a dog if they are missing a pet. PAT dogs are assessed by Pets as Therapy (PAT) to ensure they have the right temperament for supporting people.

The service is open to all current students studying at the University of Bolton.

To arrange your first appointment with us, simply complete our online registration form – it just takes a few minutes. We aim to contact you within two working days of receiving your form.
