Is a Law Degree Hard to Do?

Law has become a popular course to study at university. It offers high earning potential, and career satisfaction and you’ll acquire a mixture of skills and knowledge that employers find attractive.

However, a lot of people worry that a law degree is going to be too hard for them. They fear that they’ll start a journey they simply cannot finish.

Is a law degree too difficult to obtain?

Unfortunately, this is one of those “how long is a piece of string” type questions. What one person finds difficult, another person may find quite easy. We’re all different, after all.

And, of course, getting a degree isn’t supposed to be a walk in the park. However, with the right support and guidance, you’ll be able to maximise your potential.

So, let’s delve a little bit deeper and discover what to expect when studying law here in the North West of England.

What is difficult about getting a law degree?

As mentioned, university degrees aren’t supposed to be easy. However, different courses present different challenges, so it makes sense to start by understanding the challenges law presents.

The subject is complex

Legal concepts can be quite intricate. You’ll need a deep understanding of various areas of law, such as common, criminal, intellectual property, commercial, family, labour, and more.

Yes, this can seem overwhelming. But that’s what you’re going to university for, right? To learn!

Extensive research and reading

Law students typically need to read and analyse large volumes of legal literature.

Legal writing

Clear, precise writing is required. Don’t worry, though; these are skills you can acquire. You’ll learn exactly how to draft legal documents effectively during your course.

Time-intensive

Ultimately, obtaining a law degree demands a significant time commitment.

You can expect to spend long hours studying, preparing for classes, conducting research, and participating in extracurricular activities, such as mock trials.

But this is good; it ensures you’re ready for life beyond university!

What skills do you need to study law?

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

- Excellent reading comprehension and research skills

- Effective communication, both oral and written

- Attention to detail
