University of Bolton, why we are the right choice
Location - Bolton, Greater Manchester
Sarah qualified as a nurse in 2006 from the University of Manchester, having worked in the care sector since 1999. Worked in Colorectal Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary for 12 months, then moved into a Hospice Staff Nurse role, progressing to Senior Staff Nurse and leading on development of Hospice Spoke days for Student Nurses.
Sarah took up a post at Pennine Acute Trust in 2011 and worked there for 10 years in various roles within Palliative and End of Life Care, including as a Specialist Palliative Care Nurse and in Teaching and Service Development. Undertook Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher and Professional Education at the University of Bolton in 2020 which inspired a career move into Higher Education. Commenced in Lecturer post at the University of Bolton in June 2021 and appointed as Senior Lecturer/Programme Lead for Pre-Registration Adult Nursing Bolton Trust in February 2023.
Research Interests and Research Subject Specialisms:
Supported a piece of research investigating the impact of redeployment into a new end of life care roles for clinical and non-clinical staff during the Covid-19 pandemic, prior to commencing at the University of Bolton
Currently planning MSc (2023) research to examine student nurses’ preparedness for difficult communication scenarios with a view to developing teaching provision and support in this area.
