Entry Requirements
- Normally, you should have at least an upper second class (2.1) honours degree in a subject relevant to the creative discipline(s) you wish to study during this course (for instance, Dance).
- You'll be required to attend an interview staged at Shockout Arts.
- If you don't have the above qualifications but have alternative qualifications or significant experience in a relevant field, we'll be happy to consider your application. In addition to the interview, we may require you to complete a diagnostic assessment.
- We'll consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.
- If English isn’t your first language, you’ll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). We also accept a range of other English language qualifications – please visit our English Language Requirements web page for more details.
- This course is open to Home students only. Applications from International and EU students cannot usually be accepted because the study location for this course is not licenced by UKVI to sponsor students. Bursaries
Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2024-25 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. Teaching & Assessment
This programme allows you to engage and specify a specialist area of your professional practice for refinement and development. A mix of teacher-directed and student-centred approaches will develop and nurture your learning autonomy and refine your individual creative and academic identity. At the postgraduate level, independent study and guided independent learning are significant. Engaging with wider research and reading surrounding themes will be critical to your success. The course will explore issues both practically and theoretically, and independent rehearsals will support your practical development and advancement.
Various teaching and learning methods will allow for a range of learner needs. You can expect practice-based enquiry, self-directed study, lectures, seminars, critiques, tutorials, presentations, and work-based learning. We adopt a blended learning and teaching style, including online delivery and engagement where appropriate.
The assessment strategy is designed to help you achieve the overall aims of the programme, as well as the learning outcomes for individual modules. In addition to assessing your achievement, assessment helps you organise and develop your learning. Assessment feedback can help you build your skills and an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, so we'll provide feedback to help you understand what you have done well and where you can improve. The programme's key assessment forms include in-studio technical assessments, practical skills assessments, showcase performances, practical project reports, portfolios, oral presentations, written coursework and a major research project.
